# ChatGPT Ads vs Google Ads: what the numbers say so far

ChatGPT Ads grew fast in 2026, but the first independent numbers suggest each click is worth less than a Google Search click. Here is what is known, with sources.

| | ChatGPT Ads | Google Search Ads |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Conversion rate of paid visits | 0.37% | 1.17% |
| Revenue per paid visit | $0.89 | $2.45 |
| Click-through rate | 0.68% (Similarweb estimate) | Varies widely by industry |
| Suggested cost per click | $3 to $5 (April 2026 screenshots) | Varies by keyword |
| Bidding | Impressions, clicks or conversions | Many strategies, incl. AI Max |
| Advertisers | 100,000+ have run campaigns, 89 countries (OpenAI, Oct 2026) | Millions |
| AI changes to your ads | Creative enhancements, on by default since late Oct 2026 | AI Max text customization and final URL expansion |
| Competitor data | None in Ads Manager or the API | Auction insights |

## What it means for you

- Start small, with tracking working before you spend (see the [tracking checklist](https://aiadsdesk.com/chatgpt-ads-tracking-link-builder)).
- Work out your break-even cost per click with the [calculator](https://aiadsdesk.com/chatgpt-ads-cost-calculator).
- Decide on creative enhancements before launch (see [how to turn them off](https://aiadsdesk.com/chatgpt-ads-creative-enhancements)).
- Judge ChatGPT ads against your real orders, not only the platform's own report.

## Questions

### Should I move budget from Google Ads to ChatGPT Ads?

Not on today's evidence. Test with a small budget you can afford to lose, compare cost per real order, and grow only what pays.

### Can I advertise on ChatGPT from India?

ChatGPT ads went live in India on 29 August 2026, but at launch India had no self-serve buying (PPC Land). Check OpenAI's availability page for current self-serve countries.
